Eastern Washington University’s women’s soccer team continued its recent streak of shutout defense against Northern Colorado on Sunday, Oct. 26. The Eagles’ 2-0 victory was their third win in a row.
EWU has not allowed a goal during the three-game win streak. Against the Bears, senior goalkeeper Kamryn Willoughby saved six shots. She also had seven saves against Northern Arizona on Oct. 24 and was named the Defensive Player of the Week by the Big Sky Conference.
An Eagle was also named the Offensive Player of the Week. After having three assists against NAU, senior midfielder/forward Delani Walker scored two goals against Northern Colorado. This season, she has the most goals in the Big Sky with nine.
Walker scored her first goal in the 53rd minute of the game to put EWU up 1-0 after neither team scored in the first half. With under a minute left, the Bears pulled graduate student goalkeeper Kaya Lindberg out of the goal to make a final effort to tie the game. However, Northern Colorado failed to score, and Walker had an open net to score her second goal.
In addition to their shutdown defense over the last three games, the Eagles have also been one of the best offensive teams in the Big Sky this season. The team is tied for second in the conference with 29 goals this season.
Eastern Washington’s win streak has moved them into third place in the conference with a 4-3-1 record against Big Sky opponents. The conference tournament will run from Nov. 5 to Nov. 9 in Missoula, Montana. This will be the second consecutive season that the Eagles have qualified for the Big Sky Tournament.
EWU’s opponent for the quarterfinals will be Northern Arizona at 11:00 a.m. The Lumberjacks are 5-5-7 this season and 2-3-3 in conference games. The Eagles beat NAU 4-0 in their regular-season matchup on Oct. 24. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
