After discovering a written bomb threat on the campus of Eastern Washington University in Cheney, the student who found the note turned it over to authorities immediately, according to campus officials. The threat prompted the evacuation of the communications building and the adjacent art complex. Sen. Michael Baumgartner, R-Spokane, whose district includes EWU, urged caution as events continue to unfold and praised the student who reported the threat.

“I am monitoring the situation at the Eastern Washington University campus from my office in Olympia,” Baumgartner said. “Local law enforcement has responded and the area has been evacuated to ensure the safety of everyone on campus. I applaud the student who found the note for immediately notifying campus officials and the university’s quick response in this situation. While it’s important to be vigilant and respond appropriately to ensure safety, we also cannot be threatened by these acts of cowardice.”
