Dahir“D.J.” Jigre
Position: President
What do you want to accomplish?
“When I do get elected, I want to make sure that Eastern is unified as one. I want to make sure our community is a lot stronger than it is, and I want to make sure that everyone is inclusive and incorporated into all of the activities, especially when it comes to winter quarter, that everybody’s involved and again I want to make sure that any input that a student has as far as making Eastern better, that they are incorporated and that they are involved into all of the activities.”
Why did you decide to run?
“The students. … I’ve been involved in orientation. I’ve been part of clubs and [organizations] and I was like, ‘You know what? I felt excited,’ and every time I did orientation, a student would come up to me and ask, “‘Are you the president?’ and I would have to say, ‘No,’ and I started thinking, ‘Why not?’ This is when I decided that I think I am capable of stepping up higher so that their dreams and aspirations are equivalent to my own.”
What do you want to change?
“One thing I definitely [want to] start working on is the library hours. I want to make sure the library’s hours are inclusive to the student’s needs. One thing that fathoms me the most is that the PUB is open till 12 a.m. and the library closes at 10 p.m., which is supposed to be the other way around. A lot of students are complaining about the food and what not, so we want to make sure when the PUB does get remodeled, some sort of food options are incorporated, and a different environment that is student-oriented stuff is incorporated between [ASEWU], the students and Eastern as well.”
Aly Morgan
Position: President
What do you want to accomplish?
“I really hope to bring the whole concept of student government back into the students’ hands. I think it’s been misinterpreted sometimes and I think it’s a great organization that students might not know is a resource for them and in doing so, I want to make sure they’re getting the university choices in advancement and what not, are right there lining with what the students want and need, so that’s my main goal.”
Why did you decide to run?
“I’ve been a part of ASEWU this year as Student Health and Safety Services and in doing so, I’ve really kind of seen a group of people who work together to better the place they call home for a university, for four years, and in some cases longer. It’s a passion of mine. I love students and I kind of live by the philosophy of ‘lead by example’ and in doing so, I would like to leave the university that I’ve called home for four years better than when I came and I think it has great potential and opportunity for future Eagles.”
What do you want to change?
“I really kind of like the morale of our campus. I think in engaging students a lot more, you’re going to incorporate a lot bigger of a college life and college experience and I would really like to improve that experience for people who are currently here, that are going to be here, for their kids … kind of a domino effect.”
