Possible tobacco-free campus in the works

EWU does not currently have a tobacco-free policy because further research and student input still needs to be acquired, according to Interim ASEWU President Becca Harrell.

While still in the early stages of researching for a tobacco-free policy, the ASEWU has found cultural routines to be a reason not to implement a policy.

A tobacco-free policy, eliminating all smoking on campus grounds, is an official policy at the Riverpoint campus in Spokane. Research on a policy is currently complied by ASEWU Student Health and Safety Services Aly Morgan with the help of other ASEWU members.

“It really isn’t just about the students,” said Morgan. “We want to make sure we’re not burning any bridges. … I’m trying to figure out the best way to pull the students and see if this is actually something that they want because obviously we can never emphasis enough that we’re only here to advocate for the students’ wants and what’s best for them.”
